부경대생, LG화학 석유화학올림피아드 ‘금상’
- 안전공학과 김지우·박성훈 … 상금 600만원

국립부경대학교(총장 장영수) 안전공학과 3학년 김지우·박성훈 학생 팀(지도교수 이창준)이 ‘제1회 LG화학·한국화학공학회 석유화학 올림피아드’에서 금상을 수상했다.

부경대 팀은 전국 647팀 1692명의 화학공학 전공 대학생들이 참가해 공정안전·생산성향상·환경·에너지 분야의 문제해결 방안을 제안하는 이번 대회에서 인당 300만원의 상금이 주어지는 금상을 수상했다.

부경대 팀은 이번 대회에서 화학물 저장탱크 누출사고의 피해를 줄일 수 있는 우수한 방안을 제시해 공정안전 분야에서 가장 높은 점수를 받았다.

이들은 화학물 저장탱크 누출사고 피해 완화를 위해 기존 활용되는 기술을 보완하는 방식으로 △배관 등에만 적용하던 RFID를 탱크에 적용해 누출 조기 인식 △내화성을 갖춘 건물에 장소와 규격에 맞게 최적화된 방화벽 설치 △워터스프레이커튼의 설치장소 및 재료 △화재완화재인 PFS 폼글래스 활용 등 방안을 제안해 우수 역량을 인정받았다. 

이와 함께 인화성 액체 화학물 이송 시 문제 발생을 최소화할 수 있는 방안으로 화학안전공학, 산업심리학적 접근방법을 적용한 해결방안을 제시해 좋은 평가를 받았다.

부경대생들은 이번 수상으로 상장, 상금과 함께 LG화학 입사 지원 시 서류 전형 면제 혜택도 받게 된다. <부경투데이>

PKNU student won 'gold prize' in LG Chem Olympiad

The team of 3rd grader Kim Ji-Woo and Park Seong-Hoon (advisory Prof. Lee Chang-Joon), who are attending the Department of Safety Engineering at Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo), won the gold prize in the '1st LG Chem - Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers Petrochemicals Olympiad'.

The team from Pukyong National University won the gold prize with a prize of 3 million won per person in this competition where a total of 1,692 college students majoring in chemical engineering grouped in 647 teams participated to suggest solutions to problems facing the chemical industry in areas such as process safety, enhanced productivity, environment/energy.

The Pukyong National University team received the highest score in the process safety section by presenting an excellent way to reduce the damage caused by chemical storage tank leaks in this competition.

The team was recognized for its excellent calibre by suggesting a plan that supplements the existing technology to mitigate the damage caused by chemical storage tank leaks such as △a method for early recognition of leaks by applying RFID, which used to be applied only to piping, to tanks, △a method to install a firewall optimized for the location and standard in a fire-resistant building, △a location and materials for water spray curtains, and △PFS foam glass as a fire mitigating material.

In addition, they presented a solution that applied chemical safety engineering and industrial psychology approaches to minimize the occurrence of problems when transporting flammable liquid chemicals, received good evaluation from the judges.

With this award, Pukyong National University students will receive an award certificate and prize money, as well as an exemption from document screening when applying for a job at LG Chem. <Pukyong Today>
