부경대, ‘메타버스’ 강의 플랫폼 전면 확대

- 3월부터 운영 … 희망 교수 전원에 가상 강의실 제공

국립부경대학교(총장 장영수)가 비대면 수업의 질을 높이고 현장감 있는 수업을 제공하기 위해 ‘메타버스(Metaverse·가상세계)’ 강의 플랫폼을 전면 확대하고 나섰다.

부경대는 교과수업이나 비교과수업 등에 사용할 수 있는 강의실, 컨설팅실, 회의실 등을 갖춘 가상 캠퍼스인 ‘부경대학교 메타버스’ 구축을 완료했다고 1월 13일 밝혔다.

부경대는 이번에 구축한 메타버스 강의 플랫폼으로 교수자와 학생이 컴퓨터나 모바일을 통해 온라인 캐릭터인 아바타(avatar)로 접속, 가상세계에 세워진 캠퍼스 건물 안 강의실에서 현장감 있게 수업하고 들을 수 있는 환경을 제공한다.

이는 최근 입학식, 졸업식 등 특정 행사나 개별 프로그램에 메타버스 플랫폼을 적용해 온 시도와 달리 대학 강의 전체를 지원하는 메타버스 플랫폼을 구축했다는 점에서 이례적이다. 부경대는 현재 기업 등에 활발하게 적용되고 있는 기존 메타버스 플랫폼을 대학 강의 환경에 적합하게 재구성해 플랫폼을 구현했다.

이 플랫폼을 활용하면 기존 비대면 화상회의 프로그램처럼 정해진 시간에 교수자와 학생이 동시에 접속해 화상으로 강의, 대화하거나 문서와 동영상을 공유하며 수업을 진행하는 것은 물론, 가상세계가 없어지지 않고 항상 유지되기 때문에 언제든지 플랫폼에 접속해 토론이나 회의, 조별과제 등을 진행할 수 있다.

부경대는 모든 개설 강의가 이 플랫폼을 활용할 수 있도록 25명 이하 일반 강의실과 함께 50명까지의 중규모 강의실, 51명 이상의 대규모 강의실과 컨설팅실, 회의실까지 구축했다. 플랫폼 특성을 이용해 수업에 활용할 수 있는 퀴즈게임 등의 프로그램도 제공할 예정이다.

부경대는 2월 중 신청을 받아 메타버스 강의 플랫폼 활용을 희망하는 교수자 전원에게 가상 강의실을 제공해 1학기 강의가 개설되는 3월부터 시행할 예정이다. 원활한 수업 진행을 위한 상시 지원도 지속적으로 제공할 계획이다. <부경투데이>

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) has started to promote the overall expansion of the 'Metaverse' lecture platform to improve the quality of untact lectures and provide students with a more dynamic curriculum.

Pukyong National University announced on January 13 that it had completed the construction of the Pukyong National University Metaverse, a virtual campus equipped with lecture rooms, consulting rooms, and meeting rooms that can be used for subject classes and non-subject classes.

Pukyong National University has created an environment where professors and students can connect to the metaverse lecture platform as an online character, an avatar, through a computer or mobile device and provides an environment where students can take lessons dynamically.

Unlike recent attempts to apply the metaverse platform to specific events or individual programs such as entrance ceremonies and graduation ceremonies, this is quite unique in that the metaverse platform has been built to support entire university lectures. Pukyong National University implemented the platform by reconfiguring the form of the existing metaverse platform, which is currently being actively applied to companies, to suit the university lecture environment.

Using this platform, it is possible for instructors and students to simultaneously connect at a set time, like existing untact video conferencing programs, to attend lectures, have a conversation, or share documents and videos. In addition, since the virtual world does not disappear and is always maintained, you can access the platform at any time to conduct discussions, meetings, and group tasks.

Pukyong National University has built a general classroom that has enough room for up to 25 students, a medium-sized classroom for up to 50 students, a large-scale lecture room with a capacity for 51 people, a consulting room, and a conference room so that all lectures can use this platform. The university will also provide programs such as quiz games that can be applied to lectures using the platform characteristics.

Pukyong National University will receive an application in February and provide a virtual classroom to all professors who wish to use the Metaverse lecture platform. The platform will be carried out starting in March when the first semester lectures are opened. The university plans to continue to provide full-time support for the smooth operation of classes. <Pukyong Today>
