국립부경대, 기초과학 중점연구 ‘지-램프(G-LAMP) 사업단’ 본격 출범

- 5년간 250억 원 확보 … 세계적 물순환 연구 중심지로 도약 나서

국립부경대학교(총장 장영수)는 글로벌 수준의 기초과학 연구거점을 목표로 하는 ‘G-LAMP 사업단(단장 김영석)’이 이달 본격 출범했다고 밝혔다.

G-LAMP 사업은 대학의 연구기반을 강화해 세계적 수준의 연구성과를 창출하기 위한 교육부의 대규모 연구 프로그램이다. 대학의 자율적 연구소 관리·지원체계 구축, 전공·학과 간의 칸막이 없는 테마 중심의 공동연구 수행, 박사후연구원 등 신진연구인력 중심의 공동연구 지원 등이 목표다.

국립부경대를 비롯한 8개 대학이 지난해 램프(LAMP) 사업에 선정된 데 이어, 올해 6개 대학이 추가되고 국제화를 추구하며 G-LAMP 사업으로 전환됐다. 각 대학은 기초과학 10개 분야 중 1개 분야를 선택해 중점테마연구시스템을 구축하고 글로벌 공동연구를 수행한다.

국립부경대는 사업단장인 김영석 교수(환경지질과학전공) 등 15명의 교원이 사업에 참여한 가운데 매년 50억 원씩 5년간 총 250억 원을 지원받아 세계적 ‘물순환’ 연구 중심지로 도약하기 위한 창의적이고 혁신적인 도전적 연구에 나선다.

사업단은 대기과학, 해양과학, 지질과학 등 3대 중점 주제를 중심으로 지속·자생 가능한 해양-대기-지질과학 융복합 핵심 R&D 연구기반을 마련하고, 기후와 환경 변화에 따른 전 지구적 물순환의 이해뿐만 아니라 지역적 물자원의 안전하고 효율적 이용, 그로 인한 사회적 영향 예측 및 대응 방안 등을 연구한다.

특히, 사업단은 세계적 물순환 연구의 중심지로 도약하기 위해 국제적 학술교류와 협력을 활성화하고, 향후 미래 우주행성에서의 물자원 확보 및 순환까지 연구대상으로 삼아 기초과학 연구의 새로운 지평을 열어가며 미래 과학기술 발전에 기여한다는 계획이다.

사업단장 김영석 교수는 “지속적인 연구와 혁신으로 지구과학 분야에서 세계적 수준의 기초과학 연구를 선도하는 글로벌 연구 허브로 성장하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다.”라고 밝혔다. <부경투데이>

Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-Soo) announced that the 'G-LAMP project team' (director professor Kim Young-Seok), aimed at becoming a global hub for basic science research, has officially launched this month.

The G-LAMP (global learning & academic research institution for master & phd students, and postdocs) project is a large-scale research program funded by the Ministry of education to strengthen the university's research base and produce world-class research results. The project aims to establish an autonomous research institute management and support system within the university, promote collaborative research centered on themes without barriers between majors and departments, and support collaborative research focused on new researchers such as postdoctoral fellows.

Last year, Pukyong National University, along with seven other universities, was selected for the LAMP project. This year, six additional universities have joined, transitioning to the international-focused G-LAMP project. Each university selects one of the ten basic science fields to establish a focused theme research system and conduct global collaborative research.

Pukyong National University, with 15 faculty members, including project director professor Kim Young-Seok (major of environment & geoscience), will receive 5 billion won annually for five years, totaling 25 billion won, to undertake creative and innovative research aimed at becoming a global center for water cycle research.

The project team will focus on three major themes including atmospheric science, marine science, and geoscience, aiming to establish a sustainable and self-sufficient core R&D research base for marine-atmospheric-geoscience convergence, understanding global water cycles influenced by climate and environmental changes, ensuring the safe and efficient use of local water resources, and predicting and responding to the resulting social impacts.

In particular, the project team plans to become a global center for water cycle research by promoting international academic exchanges and cooperation, also aim to broaden the scope of basic science research to include the acquisition and circulation of water resources on future space planets, contributing to the advancement of future science and technology.
