부경대생, 실내 카약 운동기구 개발해 창업 ‘눈길’

‘해양스포츠인 카약을 실내에서 즐기고 싶다’며 실내 카약 운동기구 개발에 나서 국산화에 성공하고 창업까지 나선 대학원생이 눈길을 끌고 있다.

김 씨는 지난해 실내 시뮬레이터 ‘Impactrak K-1’과 ‘Impactrak S-1’을 개발해 ‘마린엑스’라는 회사를 창업한 데 이어, 최근 이 제품 6대를 판매하며 첫 매출을 올리는 데 성공했다.

김 씨가 개발한 이 제품들은 롤링 시트, 에어팬 등을 갖춰 실제 바다의 상황과 비슷한 운동 환경을 재현해 실내에서도 해양스포츠를 즐길 수 있는 기구들이다. ‘Impactrak K-1’은 카약,  ‘Impactrak S-1’은 패들보드용으로 개발됐다.

기존에도 카약 운동기구는 있었지만 대부분 미국, 독일 등에서 수입하는 고가의 제품들이라 사업장이나 개인들이 구입 활용하기에는 부담이 있었다. 김 씨가 개발한 제품은 기존 제품 가격의 절반인 200~250만 원선인데다, 롤링 시트를 탑재해 실제 바다에서 파도나 바람으로 인한 흔들림도 생생하게 구현해 기존 제품보다 현실감이 높은 것이 장점이다.

특히 운동기구 개발에만 그친 것이 아닌, 제품과 연동해 사용할 수 있는 ‘Impactrak’ 앱도 개발해 사용자가 운동량과 운동 강도를 파악하고 다른 사용자들과 운동 기록을 공유할 수 있는 시스템을 제공한다.

김 씨는 국민체육진흥공단의 창업지원사업인 ‘2021년도 스포츠산업 창업지원/도약센터사업’의 지원을 받아 시제품 6대를 제작했고, 카약 동호인 대상 시연회를 통해 제품의 우수성을 알아본 카약 대리점 등 해양스포츠 업체들에 6대 전부를 판매하는 데 성공했다. 내달 17일에는 서울 코엑스에서 열리는 박람회 ‘서울국제스포츠레저산업전’에도 참가해 제품들을 선보인다.

해양스포츠를 전공하며 인명구조, 동력수상레저기구 등 다양한 해양스포츠 자격증도 보유한 ‘해양스포츠 매니아’ 김 씨는 “카약을 즐기는 아버지를 따라 카약을 경험한 이후 카약의 매력에 빠지면서 실내에서 카약을 즐기고 싶어 직접 운동기구를 개발하게 됐다.”라고 밝혔다.

그는 “이 제품으로 언제든 실내에서 훈련하거나 운동하고, 실제 운동 전 운동법을 익힐 수 있기 때문에 카약이 대중화되는 데 보탬이 될 것으로 기대한다.”라면서, “더 많은 사람들이 카약의 매력을 느낄 수 있도록 계속 제품을 연구 개발하고, 국내는 물론 해외 시장 개척에도 나설 계획이다.”라고 포부를 밝혔다. <부경투데이>

PKNU student invented an indoor kayak exercise machine and founded a company

Starting with the idea of 'Everyone knows kayaking is a marine sport, but I want to enjoy it indoors too,' a graduate student is attracting public attention for inventing an indoor kayak exercise machine, succeeding in localization, and even starting a business.

This is a story about Kim Jin-Jae (Age 25), a 1st-year graduate student of the Department of Marine Sports at Pukyong National University in Busan (President Jang Young-Soo).

Kim founded a company called 'MarineX' by inventing the indoor simulators the 'Impactrak K-1' and the 'Impactrak S-1' last year. He recently sold six of these products and succeeded in sales for the first time.

These products, invented by Kim, are equipped with rolling seats and air fans to reproduce an exercise environment like the actual sea conditions, allowing you to enjoy marine sports indoors. The ‘Impactrak K-1’ was developed for kayaking, while the ‘Impactrak S-1’ was developed for paddle boarding.

There has been kayaking exercise equipment in the past, but most of them are high-cost products imported from the United States and Germany, so it was burdensome for fitness clubs or individuals to purchase them. The product invented by Mr. Kim costs KR 2 to 2.5 million won, which is half the price of existing products, and it has a higher sense of reality than existing products because it is equipped with a rolling seat to vividly replicate the shaking caused by waves or wind on the sea.

In particular, he not only developed exercise equipment, but also developed the 'Impactrak' application that can be used in connection with the product to provide a system that allows users to understand the amount and intensity of the exercise and share exercise records with other users.

Kim produced six prototypes with support from the 'Sports Industry Startup Support Project 2021', a start-up support project of the National Sports Promotion Agency, and kayak dealers who recognized the excellence of the product through a demonstration for kayak club members. Kim succeeded in selling all six products to marine sports companies. On the 17th of next month, he plans to participate in the 'Seoul International Sports and Leisure Industry Exhibition' held at COEX in Seoul to showcase the products.

'Marine sports lover' Kim, who majored in marine sports and holds various marine sports certifications such as lifesaving and engine water leisure crafts, said, "While experiencing kayaking with my father, who really loves it, I fell in love with kayaking and invented my own exercise equipment to enjoy indoor kayaking."

"Using this product, you can train or exercise indoors at any time and learn how to do the exercise movements before performing the actual exercise, so it is expected that it will contribute to the popularization of kayaking," he continued, "I hope more people will feel the charm of kayaking, so I plan to continue researching and inventing products while pushing for the domestic and overseas markets. <Pukyong Today>
